yolanda king.jpgYolanda King, the eldest child of Dr. Martin Luther King, has died at the age of 51.  This comes just over a year after the death of her mother Coretta Scott King.  According to the associated press the family believes Ms. King's death was related to a heart problem.

Yolanda is credited as a producer, speaker, and actor; having appeared in the 1978 miniseries "King" where she played Rosa Parks.  She also appeared in "Ghosts of Mississippi."

Yolanda King is survived by her remaining siblings; her sister the Rev. Bernice A. King and brothers Martin Luther King III and Dexter Scott King. It is still hard to believe that Martin Luther King and Coretta Scott King have no grandchildren.

  1. Rev Dr Edith L. Werdebach Says:

To the King Family: Please accept my deepest sympathy for your loss. You all have done yourself proud and Yolanda’s efforts will not be forgotten by me, and lots of others, I am sure. Life is about loss as we know, but it counts due to our positive actions while still on earth. We must always be ready to leave for we never know when the bell will tow for us. God bless all of you..Love and prayers.

  2. Ben Says:

No grandchildren and all of the King children are 40+ and single, an example that people are making different life choices in the 21 century.

  3. M. L. Hodges Says:

    Shawn,

I hope all is well with you and your family…it has been a long time. I too believe it is interesting that none of the King children have married or have children themselves. I think many people will constantly question what the physical legacy of the King Family and the King Center will be if there are no heirs to the immediate King family…I added a link to your blog on my blog site…

    Peace and Blessings,

    Martin
