Jill Scott has released a hot new single titled Hate on Me, that is getting very limited airplay to date.  This is often the case for artists like Ms. Scott, Common, and others who aren't from the cookie cutter mold of today's pop stars. I did however hear this song on the radio last week and went out on the web to try and find it. The best I could do was a version of the song that's posted on the Vibe website. If this song is any indication of what's in store, J.S. fans should be well pleased in the fall.  Jill Scott's next album The Real Thing is scheduled for release on September 25, 2007.

I ran across this exclusive interview with Atlanta Falcon's quarterback Michael Vick on an Atlanta radio station.  There is no new info in the interview conducted by Porsche Foxx, but it is one of the few times we've heard from Vick since his dogfighting indictment came down.    Click here to listen to the interview.

Nominations for the Texas Black Sports Hall of Fame class of 2007 are being accepted now until July 31, 2007.  The 12th Annual Texas Black Sports Hall of Fame Banquet and Auction honoring the inductees will be held at 7 p.m., on Saturday, December 1, 2007 at the Hilton Anatole Hotel. The Texas Black Sports Hall of Fame , housed at the African-American Museum in Dallas' Fair Park, was established to chronicle the sports history contributions made by African Americans in the state.  It was established in 1996 to honor coaches and athletes of high character and athletic achievement, who are either Texans by birth or by athletic participation (collegiate or professional), and who have made a recognizable contribution to African-American culture and/or history. Nominated athletes must have been retired from sports for at least five years and must possess exemplary sportsmanship and citizenship records. There is no retirement requirement for coaches, but they must not be an active coach at the time of their nomination.  The general public submits the nominees, and a panel of judges (including sports journalist) makes the final selection. Hot Ghet....excuse me, We Got to Do Better was one of the worst shows I've ever seen on television.  There were only two advertisers on my DVR version, the movie Who's Your Caddy, and Jenny Craig (shame on you Valerie). What was the point?  What was up with the rednecks?  Did Charlie Murphy write that whack material he was spitting out?   If anybody has got to do better it's BET.  BET needs to look in the mirror and ask themselves why do they take so much pride in promoting negative stereotypes and offensive images in relation to African-Americans. What gives them the right to make moral judgments on anyone; whether it be redneck or roughneck? I could tell that some of the protests made by folks like What About Our Daughters forced BET to flip the script.  There were very few females shown outside of the Takin' it to the Streets segments.   The show wasn't funny, original, thought provoking, or necessary.  It makes one thankful that Tyler Perry has a vehicle on Wednesday nights (House of Payne) that can actually make you laugh and think in the same episode.  HGM/WGTDB promised to do so, but failed miserably.

Eddie Levert greeted fans and signed copies of his book I Got Your Back on Tuesday night at the African-American Museum in Dallas.  The event was a joint effort between Real Men Cook of Dallas and Black Images Books. I Got Your Back is Eddie and Gerald Levert's final collaboration, finished the day before Gerald passed away suddenly on November 10, 2006 at the age of 40. In the book, which was also written with Lyah Beth Leflore, The Leverts candidly discuss their failures, concerns, fears, and triumphs as father and son.                In conjunction with the book signing, the event was used as a chance to recognize the cooks and volunteers who participated in Real Men Cook 2007.  Terry Allen, producer of the Dallas event, thanked the 46 men who cooked this year, and set a goal of over 100 men cooking at RMC next Father's Day.  Mr. Allen announced that Chef Jeff Henderson will again serve as celebrity chef next year.  He also encouraged everyone to buy multiple copies of I Got Your Back and to keep the book on the best seller list.
