The Truth About Trinity United Church posted this excellent YouTube clip on their excellent website. This is a discussion with James Cone, one of the fathers of Black Liberation Theology.I’m not sure if most of you have the patience to stick with the 20 minute interview, but those of you who do will hear a very clear explanation of the idea of the “black church.” It’s not a profile of every church, but many black churches identify with what Cone speaks of here. Be Blessed!

  1. Phelps Says:

Considering that one of the first things he says is that his theology rejects the theology of Dr. King, I would say it is very much not “every church.” The first part throws me too. Rejecting a “white” Jesus because he is from Palestine? Palestine was full of people of European descent (notably the Philistines.) Jesus has common ancestors with today’s Hebrews. Does that mean that he considers Hebrews black?

To me, this sort of revisionist theology is no more innocent than the various attempts to “de-Jew” Jesus in Europe.

It’s funny that I was actually watching this exact clip earlier today, and considered sending it to you, but thought that it would be off topic (in addition to be me being over-Wrighted.)
