“It was a great pleasure to meet these exceptionally bright students in our nation’s capitol. These young people are the future of our country and I came away from our meeting today even more optimistic about the future of our great nation,” said Congresswoman Johnson. She stressed to the students the importance of a strong high school education as a foundation for success. Congresswoman Johnson told the students, “While it’s not the easiest choice to as a young person, putting your education first, studying hard, and receiving good grades is the best decision you can make for yourself.”

Although I think the trip will serve some of the students well, but I think that the money spent on the trip to DC could have been better served as schalorships for those same students. The students did not have to be taken to DC to learn how to apply for colleges, that is a on going process throughout the years by the counselors of SOC. I think the trip was just a excuse for free trip for Administrators.

Watchful, I’m going to have to disagree. I went to DC for the first time 2 years ago and it made a huge impression on me. Sometimes experience is the key, and seeing different parts of the country or the world can give one a whole new perspective. Kids in other districts travel all over the world. I remember some of my Anglo counterparts in school going on trips to Mexico and Europe with teachers. I probably could have gone, but that just didn’t seem doable though it probably was. The more exposure we can give our kids the better.
