The Texas Social Innovation Initiative is a regional, state and national collaborative to stimulate social innovation throughout Texas.  The initiative has kicked off with a pilot project in North Texas and a partnership between the One Star Foundation: Texas Center for Social Impact, Root Cause, a nonprofit consulting firm in Boston and Dallas Social Venture Partners, a venture philanthropy model of impact investors.  Together, their efforts have leveraged more than $100,000 to the North Texas region to help identify, strengthen and amplify the efforts of social innovators throughout the region. On Thursday, Dallas South News will hold an Open House event here in the DSN Newsroom located at the Southside on Lamar in the historic Sears Building. It will be a great opportunity to meet the Dallas South News staff, Board of Directors, Advisory Board, and DSN volunteers. The open house will take place Thursday August 27th from 6-8 PM. For almost three years now, people from all over the world have thought this space worthy enough to visit and check out our take on important news stories. Together, we really have helped to portray positive images of African-Americans in the media and challenge the negative images often depicted in mainstream media. But we are now called to a new task. Right now Dallas South is in the midst of a transformation, where we will move beyond simply commenting on the news to create more original content. It's something that already takes place here, but the new venture will allow us to do so on a greater scale. We will utilize the non-profit news model that has already been launched in other parts of the country. Think of it as our very own NPR specifically focused on Southern Dallas.
