Earlier this month I got in a dust up with readers over a Vogue magazine cover featuring LeBron James. People tried to get me to believe that Vogue had no clue that the cover would bring thoughts of King Kong and Fay Wray. I guess those same people will try to get me to believe that this photo of Miley Cyrus in Vanity Fair was made with the best of intentions. Yes it's Billy Ray's job to protect Hannah Montana from sexual predators like Vanity Fair. It's hard to believe he would participate by posing for a photo like this one of he and Miley. But there is something larger at work here. Back to the broader point, these photographers and magazines know exactly what they are doing. How do I know this? Because Annie Leibovitz shot the Lebron James cover and the photos of Miley Cyrus. The popular media is trying to do everything that they can to shock us. And it pays real good. The news that we're being fed is not meant for our benefit. Whether it's LeBron Kong, a backless Hannah Cyrus, sound bites followed by an overdose of Jeremiah Wright, ...

ACCORDING TO DIARY OF A CONTENT BLACK WOMAN, ORLANDO BROWN CALLED A RADIO STATION IN L.A. TONIGHT SAYING HE'S FINE AND NEEDED SOME ALONE TIME.  BELOW IS THE STORY I HAD RUN A COUPLE OF HOURS AGO. Deidra from Black and Missing lets us know that Orlando Brown of That's So Raven fame is missing since Tuesday morning. I remember when Orlando was on The Jamie Foxx Show and Family Matters back in the day. Here's what Black and Missing had to say about the disappearance: The 20-year-old reportedly left his manager's house around 10:20 a.m. to make a quick trip to 7-Eleven and has not been seen since. According to Brown's publicist, Elayne Rivers, he had a full day of meetings and appointments in preparation for a photo shoot Wednesday. Rivers adds that friends and family are very concerned, as the young actor is not one to be out of touch for long, and the convenience store was within a short walking distance from his manager's home in Studio City. When I opened the paper Friday and saw that Tyler Perry's Meet the Browns received a C-, I knew it would make a lot of money. The movie raked in $20 million dollars and placed 2nd at the box office behind Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who ($25 million). The Dallas Morning News ran a review by Steven Rea of the Philadelphia Inquirer tagged Do we really want to 'Meet the Browns'? Here are some of the lowlights from Rea's review: There's nothing subtle about Tyler Perry and his black-centric movies. The farce is in-your-face, the melodrama has more soap than a Laundromat...come mounted on billboards. But that said, the playwright, actor, director and drag queen (yes, his bewigged and be-wild Madea makes a brief and totally gratuitous appearance in his new film) knows how to give human dimension, and a dimension of humor, to the cliches and stereotypes. And so Brenda and her kids head for the sticks to meet the not-so-bereaved Brown family, engage in dinner table discourse and city-versus-country culture clash...and watch some over-the-top comic antics from Jenifer Lewis (as the family drunk) and David Mann (as a Southern-fried fool with a retro wardrobe). I had to share this review of HBO's John Adams Biopic posted at HustleKnockin.com . The film starring Paul Giamatti and Laura Linney chronicles the life of one of America's founding fathers.  Here are a few excerpts from the review.  Be sure to visit www.knockthehustle.com as well. Filming a biopic about John Adams without delving into American slavery and the colonists’ homicidal land-grabbing relationships with Native Americans would be akin to doing a biopic about Bud Selig or Mark McGwire and ignoring the Steroid Era. Only does Adams’ wife, played by Laura Linney seem to even remotely acknowledge that the practice of slavery and Native American genocide at the hands of colonists and empires alike may exist. During a one-on-one Mrs. Adams calmly suggests to John that along with building a nation free from British rule, that they should also consider ending slavery. John Adams is a dramatic piece; and great drama is rooted in conflict and contradictions. And what greater source of contradiction and conflict is there than exploring characters who boldly fight to protect for themselves that which they intentionally and simultaneously choose to deprive others of? Yet, John Adams chooses to ignore this most-obvious and potentially riveting ...

Lost has been even more unpredictable than usual this season, but Thursday's episode provided a twist that I didn't expect. Even with last week's promise of a familiar face, I didn't think that face would belong to Michael, played by Harold Perrineau).   It's funny because my mom who doesn't usually watch the show had just asked me "are there any black people lost?"  I had mentioned Rose and that everybody else was killed or "off the island."   Then Perrineau appeared as "Kevin Johnson" a deckhand on the mysterious freighter that has been docked off the island all season. Both Sayid and Desmond recognized Kevin as Michael, though they didn't let on that they knew him.   Is Michael Ben's man on the boat? Did Michael open the door to the medical room last week and pass the note to Sayid and Desmond that said "Don't Trust The Captain?"  I guess we'll see next week. And I know there's controversy around it, but for my money all of the Oceanic 6 have now been revealed: Kate, Jack, Hurley, Sun, Sayid, and Aaron.
