1.  Things changed when Josh went down. When Josh Howard rolled his ankle by steping on Peja Stojakovic's foot, the fortune of the Mavericks immediately changed.  I was surprised that the announcers on the national broadcast didn't make a bigger deal out of it. Not from an excuse standpoint, but more so on the defensive end Josh could hardly stick with anyone.  He kept throwing up bricks off that bad wheel and the Hornets slowly crept back in the game. 2.  Why did Avery take Dirk out? I have to say I was frustrated with Coach Johnson when he took Nowitzki out  just under two minutes into the fourth.  The Hornets already had momentum on their side, and it would have been nice to see what Dirk might have done to try to curb the tide. By the time Avery called a timeout to get Dirk back in the game, it was too late.  This is do or die time, I just felt like the Mavs should have pulled out all the stops to try to get this win on the road. 3.  This team won't win with jump shots. A couple of months ago I wanted to write a post touting the virtues of bringing another baseball team into the market. I thought that downtown Dallas would make a fine home for the Florida Marlins. But that's not what this post is about. This post stems from the attendance at the Rangers' second home game. The double header against the Baltimore Orioles saw a dismal 15,560 paid attendance. Talk radio (i.e. the Ticket) lamented the fact that a team playing in the 4th (or 5th) largest media market should never draw those types of numbers - even if the team sucks. Yet as I thought about that opinion, I asked myself a question: What does media market have to do with attendance? Of course one would throw out the fact that you can translate media market stats into population, and I'd go to the MSA (Metropolitan Statistical Area) for that. That nets us nearly 5,000,000 potential Ranger fans/game attendees for any given home game - right? WRONG!!! Maybe we should just call it the K-Mac Invitational.  For the 2nd year in a row, K-Mac has shown that he has a superior basketball brain, as he correctly predicted the Kansas Jayhawks would win the championship.  I'm expecting a victory speech in the near future.

I wanted to get some opinions of what the Dallas South Family thinks about King LeBron James on the latest cover of Vogue magazine with model Gisele Bundchen. The assertion is that James is striking a King Kongesque pose and Gisele is Vogue's version of Fay Wray. It's more than an assertion, it's an artistic reality. Whoever was in charge of this photo shoot was OBVIOUSLY going for the King Kong reference. Photographers get paid to see things that no one else does. Even the irony of a pose like this would not have escaped mention. Everybody's favorite Jason Whitlock writes exactly what I would expect him to write. In his piece Am I supposed to be mad about LeBron?, Whitlock says the following: According to the allegations, King James looks like King Kong clutching Fay Wray on the latest cover of Vogue, and the image, according to potential handbook writers, "conjures up this idea of a dangerous black man." Congratulations to the South Oak Cliff Golden Bears on winning their 4th straight state title. Coach James Mays II guided the team through a tumultuous season, keeping them focused on the things they could control on the court. After being down to Fort Worth Southwest by 11 points with 4 minutes left in the game, the Bears showed us all what champions are made of. SOC rallied with tough pressure defense, timely baskets, and clutch free throws to prevail by a 80-77 margin. SOC (25-8), started the season 6-6, even falling out of the local Top 10 at one point. But when district rolled around, they found themselves in familiar territory, and proceeded through the playoffs like a team who had been there before. As for the investigation into SOC's 2nd championship, the statement continues that "Dallas ISD will forfeit the title." To my knowledge there has been no UIL investigation into the matter and DISD has not done its due diligence either. I remember attending one of South Oak Cliff's first practices this basketball season.  For the record, I signed in at the front desk and had permission to be there. The first thing I noticed was that this year's team was more athletic than SOC teams from the past.   A common misconception is that the Golden Bears had won 3 straight titles because they were superior athletically.  The truth is they win because they outcoached and outwilled their opponents on a nightly basis. On Saturday, SOC defeated Highland Park 58-52 at the Garland Special Events Center.  Center J'Mison "Bobo" Morgan scored 15 points in the win.  Next week Coach James Mays will take his team to Austin in a quest for a 4th straight title. 

Quintrell Solomon tipped in a missed free throw of teammate VincentMcNeil extended a Dallas Roosevelt lead to three with five seconds togo en route to leading the Mustangs past Liberty Eylau, 65-62 in aRegion II, Class 3A regional semifinal in Commerce, Texas. In a contest that featured 10 ties and 12 lead changes, the game wasnot decided until the final seconds. McNeil led the Mustangs with 16points and he was joined in double figures by Solomon and DeWanzellDay, who added 10 points apiece. Liberty Eylau forward Charles Jones had a double double, scoring agame-high 22 points and grabbing a game-high 14 rebounds in the loss.He was joined in double figures by Jermaine Waller and Leon Ransom scored 11 and 10 points, respectively. With the win, Dallas Roosevelt advances to the regional final againstKennedale, who defeated Pittsburg 66-63 in the other semifinal. From Texas A&M Commerce Sports Information.

Keith Whitmire of the Dallas Morning News reports on South Oak Cliff's 53-49 come from behind victory vs. Whitehouse. The loss was only Whitehouse's 2nd of the season. Whitmire reports: After trailing by eight at halftime, South Oak Cliff outscored Whitehouse, 34-22, in the second half, holding Whitehouse to just nine points on three field goals in the fourth quarter. J'Mison "Bobo" Morgan led South Oak Cliff (22-8) with 16 points and was a huge defensive presence in the middle with his shot-blocking ability. Brandon Jones scored 11, all but two in the second half when SOC made its push. It's business as usual for Coach James Mays II and the defending state champion South Oak Cliff Golden Bears.  After a disappointing start to the season, SOC finished a tough district season on top and will make a return trip to the Garland Special Events Center and play for another regional crown.  Highland Park has also advanced to the Region II semi-finals in Garland.
